Joe Babin, Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Babin has more than 23 years of P&L experience with operating, growing and transforming early stage and expansion phase companies.  Prior to accepting the Chief Executive Officer position for Blue Square Energy Mr. Babin had been the interim Chief Operating Officer for the Company for 18 months. Before Blue Square Energy, Mr. Babin was the CEO of Kinetix where he led the transformation of a very small contractor to a large regional full scope MEP (Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing), facilities maintenance and energy services company. Kintix primary client base is the federal Government. Mr. Babin has specific experience with building technology based businesses. He was the Executive Vice President and principle of Electronic Payment Exchange (EPX) where he and his partners built  an online payment processing platform into a national player in the financial transaction processing space and eventually directed a successful sale of the company to Intercept Payment Solutions (NASD:ICPT). Mr. Babin’s financial services experience includes his role as President of the NSM Insurance Group where he directed the growth and expansion of a regional insurance operation into a full service $300mm national program underwriter.

 

Stephen Costantino, Ph.D., Chief Technology and Operating Officer

Dr. Costantino has more than 20 years experience managing and building technology-based businesses, with specialization in the energy, electronics, and specialty chemical sectors. Prior to joining BSE, Steve was Vice President of Technology Commercialization Group at Ben Franklin Technology Partners, leading the formation of the organization’s Clean Technology Initiative.  Steve was previously the CTO/COO for Oxane Materials, Inc. of Houston, Texas, a late-stage venture backed company dedicated to applying nano-particle technology solutions in the energy industry. Prior to his work at Oxane, Dr. Costantino spent 14 years with Cabot Supermetals. While at Cabot, Steve was the Managing Director, Advanced Capacitor Materials Business, and Global Director, Tantalum Research and Development. Dr. Costantino earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Penn State University.

Dr. Allen Barnett

Dr. Barnett is Executive Director of the Solar Power Program, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Senior Policy Fellow at the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware.  He has more than 30 years of experience in the solar power industry including Program Manager for a $53 million Very High Efficiency Solar Cell project which involves developing a 50% efficient solar cell for portable applications.  He is Principal Investigator for the follow-on $100 million DARPA program.  Previous experience includes founding AstroPower (now GE Solar), serving as President & CEO and leading it through the IPO.  Dr. Barnett pioneered the development of low-cost, thin-film polycrystalline silicon cells.  He is an IEEE Fellow and has received solar power honors such as the IEEE William R. Cherry Award and the Karl W. Boer Solar Energy Medal.  He has published more than 200 technical papers, has contributed to several books on energy and photovoltaics, has received seven R&D 100 Awards, and has been issued 25 U.S. patents.  He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and M.S.E.E. and B.S.E.E degrees from the University of Illinois.

 

Dr. Christiana Honsberg

Dr. Honsberg is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Chief Scientist, Solar Power Laboratory, Arizona State University.  Dr. Honsberg’s research is focused on ultra-high efficiency solar cells.  She has more than 100 referenced journal and conference publications. She was formerly Director of the High Performance Solar Power Program at the University of Delaware.  She is Co-Principal Investigator of the DARPA Very High Efficiency Solar Cell (VHESC) Project.  Previously she was Associate Professor in the Centre for Photovoltaic Engineering at University of New South Wales and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.  Her Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering are from the University of Delaware.
